Hoops Of Steel

right now i am still reading "hoops of steel." i am now on page 71. it is about basketball and it is by john foley. there was this boy named thaddues who joined junior high basketball but he wasn't that good to play so he wasn't a starter. he wanted to be one but the coach wouldn't let him. the starters were chipper, dale, tim, and two other girls. theres always have to be three boys and two girls. that is the main idea of the chapter i have been reading this morning.

  1. That is interesting, until I came to Kipnuk I didn't know there were mixed league teams. In Montana we had boys and girls basketball and yes you could easily be cut from the team; not just for attendance and eligibility, but also for not being quick enough, a good shot, or not looking like you were working hard enough in practice. I managed to be on the team through 8th grade, but then my speed (actually lack of speed) caught up with me. That was the end of my illustrious basketbaqll career. Oh well.

The girl's team played by the same rules as the boy's team and went on as many trips (sometimes to the same towns) as the boys did too. I thought it was a lot of fun and wished I could still be on the team when I was in high school. I was in pep band instead.

By the way, when I went to college in Iowa I was surprised to learn there the girl's teams played a weird half-court game. It looked lame to me, but that is just me. No reason a girl's team couldn't use the whole court.

Nice blog John. You should be in the habit of capitalizing the first word in sentences and people's names... even in informal writing like this. Enjoy the reading and stick with it.
